Roatan Reading List

04.10.2017 by Tana Henry //

When I travel, I always find time to get a bit of reading time in. Car trips, flights, and relaxing by a pool or on a beach afford ample time to read fantastic books. Here is my Roatan Reading List. I hope you too will check out and enjoy these great books especially if you’re in need of a beach reading list.

Books Finished:

Rules of Civility by Amor Towles

2017 MMD Reading Challenge: a book in the backlist of a new favorite author

I am a huge fan of Amor Towles after reading A Gentleman in Moscow. I just love his writing style and the fact that I don’t see his twists and turns coming. Modern Mrs. Darcy recommended both of these books, and I’m forever grateful, as they are both way up on my favorites list. Because the book is primarily set in the 1920s-30s, it has a bit of the feel of The Great Gatsby, but is very much its own book. I don’t want to talk about the plot, as I really enjoyed discovering it for myself.

Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes

The book follows the story of a retarded man who is given the gift of intelligence and the ability to learn through medical research, and how he deals with the uncertainty of his future. All I can really say is, wow! This book is so incredibly powerful, and moving, and sweet, and also incredibly sad. I loved it.

Welcome to Last Chance by Cathleen Armstrong

The main character is running away from a bad situation and a bad boyfriend when she breaks down in the town of Last Chance. It was stirring and fun and romantic, but also had some mystery and adrenaline-pumping moments. This was a great beach read.

The Girl in the Photo by Gaspar Gonzales

The author’s brother dies in Vietnam, and he and his family are left with only memories and photographs. The photograph (also the cover of the book) stays with the author, and he can’t help but wonder about the girl in the photo. He tracks her down, and learns about her, his brother, and his family. This is short and moves right along. I was engaged throughout.

Caribbean Reef Life of the Bay Islands, Honduras by Mickey Charteris

While scuba diving, Mike and I often see various species of fish and coral that we can’t identify. Mickey Charteris gave a wonderful talk at our resort in Roatan, and we bought his book from the dive shop the very next day. It has already been well worth the money in the education it has provided, but also in helping to identify the marine life that are in our photographs and videos. I anticipate that this book will be useful in all of the Caribbean.

My name is Tana, and I am an attorney in South-Central Nebraska. I'm married to a great guy, named Mike, and have a dog named Emmy and a cat named Scout. I read as much as possible, and travel any chance I get. Luggage and Literature chronicles both. I hope you enjoy looking around! Please leave me a comment and tell me what you think.
