When I travel, I always find time to get a bit of reading time in. Car trips, flights, and relaxing by a pool or on a beach afford ample time to read fantastic books. Here is my Washington and Idaho Travel Reading List. And because I’m participating in the 2018 PopSugar Reading Challenge, this reading list includes which books fulfill particular categories of the reading challenge.
Books Finished:
Outside Passage: A Memoir of an Alaskan Childhood by Julia Scully
This book is about a woman who was raised in the Alaskan wilderness on the cusp of and during World War II, having moved there at the tail end of the Depression. Her childhood is traumatic and dysfunctional. But the story is fascinating. The book is not terribly long, and I finished the book in a day.
Diamond Ruby by Joseph Wallace
2018 PopSugar Challenge: a book about or involving a sport
Set in the early 1900s and following a girl with a gift for throwing hard, fast, and accurately. She is faced with difficult life circumstances, and is doing her best with them. There is an element of mystery and intrigue in the latter half of the book that made it even more enjoyable. This was a great book!
The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky
2018 PopSugar Challenge: a book set in the decade you were born
Told in the form of letters from a high school boy to an anonymous friend, this book takes a look at really hard issues and addresses them masterfully. Topics of drug usage, homosexuality, sexual assault, and more play a part in this story. The book is very well done, but be advised if you’re sensitive as this may not be the book for you.
