When I travel, I always find time to get a bit of reading time in. Car trips, flights, and relaxing by a pool or on a beach afford ample time to read fantastic books. This is What I Read while traveling to the Black Hills for New Year’s 2015.
Books Finished:
Planet Urth (Book 1) by Jennifer Martucci and Christopher Martucci
I thought this book was an enjoyable read, especially for those who, like me, are big fans of dystopian fiction. I found the characters easy to identify with and root for. But the writing is a bit simplistic. So it was an easy read, which is nice for those times when you don’t want to think too hard.
There are four more books in the series, The Savage Lands (Book 2), The Underground City (Book 3), The Rise of Azlyn (Book 4), The Fate of Urth (Book 5). I’ll probably read them too, but we’ll see for sure.
Ticker by Lisa Mantchev
Ticker is a steam punk novel. I’d never before read anything in this genre, so it initially took a little getting used to. I liked this action packed story, but felt like the characters could have used a little more development to make it easier to connect with them.
The story is unique though. It follows a main character who has a brass heart, or ticker. The country that she lives in is divided on the issue of modifications to humans; and the doctor, who surgically installed her prototype ticker, is on trial for experimenting on humans.
